ITALIAN GP – Johann Zarco (P4) comes close to the front row at the end of an exciting qualifying session at Mugello. Jorge Martin will start 14th after a penalty

It was an intense Saturday at the Mugello Circuit. Qualifying for the Italian Grand Prix ended with a valuable fourth place for Johann Zarco and an eleventh for Jorge Martin, who was later penalised three places by Race Direction for behaviour deemed incorrect during FP3.

Jorge Martín

I am sorry for the penalty because after going long for a contact I was trying to clean the tyres and I dont think I disturbed another rider. It wont be easy to start so far behind, but the race pace this morning wasnt bad. So I think I can try to make a good comeback tomorrow.

Johann Zarco

It was a very difficult qualifying because it was not easy to understand which was the best tyre to use. However, I am very confident for tomorrow’s race. We have done a good job so far and our expectations are good. It’s clear, though, that we are still missing something. We will have to try to find it tomorrow morning.
